Gus Edwards 2022 Outlook

Recommended Posts

might as well fire this one up. loved gus pre dobbins injury and post injury obviously last year. shattered dreams after the dobbins injury when gus went down. now this yr, it feels a bit cooler in the gus circle. still like him, still like the game, but as more of a thumper, i’m hoping he hasn’t lost a step. relative to dobbins, gimme the bus all day. as of now w dobbins up in air and no decent news on bus’s rehab, i’m not sure what to expect.  if both were healthy, i’d say bus with 10-12 carries a game, red zone work…

FWIW, Gus only tore the ACL, while Dobbins tore the ACL and LCL, which it sounds like is going to make Dobbins recovery more complicated while Gus is expected to be a full go at camp.

Right now the other alternatives on the roster are Mike Davis, Tyler Badie (rookie from Mizzou), and Justice Hill.

I think Gus is looking great with an ADP of around 174, personally.  I'm assuming that the Ravens are not going to repeat last year's perfect storm of injuries and will revert to something like 2019, 2020 standards.  Even if Dobbins is ahead of schedule and they have that 2020 type split, Edwards is still being drafted at his floor (RB5/6 type) and if Dobbins isn't healthy and he is there is some room for profit to a high end flex/low end RB2 here.

Edwards could be a sleeper pick in standard leagues but in PPR, he isn't that valuable at all because he doesn't catch many passes.  The Ravens' backfield will probably be a headache for fantasy owners even if Dobbins isn't back because it will probably be a Edwards/Davis committee to start the season with Davis getting a lot of the passing down work.  Badie or Hill (one will probably be inactive on game days) will probably be mixed in as well.

No one will be catching many passes in the Ravens backfield, but if Edwards is getting a lot of the carries that has value, even in PPR, at the price he is going at.

That's kind of out of nowhere.  Dobbins with the worse injury is ahead?  Didn't see that coming.

Said before in jest but it may be true- Mike Davis might have a month of value in this offense.

It feels like last year where we will be churning and burning through a dumpster fire.  People will place their bets on Davis, Clement, possibly Badie, but all are likely to disappoint.  I think they effectively demonstrated that there are limits to guys you can plug into the running game and still get results, and Davis I think showed last year he isn't much of an improvement over a Freeman or a Bell.

Yeah you're probably right.  Collection of spare parts does the job for a few weeks, at least.

Bump. Might be time to claim The Gus Bus and stash away on IR. He still has three weeks until he is off PUP. Gives you time to evaluate your roster, at least he is yours for the time being. Evaluate for a few more weeks and you have a viable RB3 / Flex / Bye week filler. Some other thoughts:

- have you seen this dude run?  he is big, plays big, and totally fits the Ravens brand of football

- he was being drafted around the 5th round last year. folks were pretty high on him.
- classic case of creating his own spot on the roster by grinding and playing. he has history with this team…huge…instantly over Davis and Drake - better runner too
- you can do a hell of lot worse with the free agent pool right now. Zero risk play at the moment.
- Ravens are desperately needing running. Dobbins may fill a void but I don’t think he fills it completely or at all…got to see how he shakes out.

As someone who loves the guy in general, drafted him last year and thought I had a steal, what would his PT situation look like? I've not really bothered following the Baltimore nightmare of backfield after last season, and it looks like much of the same this year.  I've definitely been monitoring him, but what is realistic? A 50/50 with Dobbins?  60/40 but Gus gets the GL work?

I think there is a real chance that Gus can come back and out play Dobbins. Dobbins was seen limping around not that long ago. It should be interesting to see who comes back stronger from their injury.

This. This was Gus’ backfield two years ago. It was his to own last year. And he is coming back hard for it.

you are welcome for the bump everyone.
