What's up with the Josh Gordon Thread?

The second we get some good conversation going... the mods lock it. Happens just about everyday.

It feels like an oppressive society over there sometimes. Let us have our memes! Just delete the comments... no need to lock.

Issue I have is the thread remains locked a lot of the times. A lot of the times when it's locked, there's news that Rotoworld members would love to talk about. Aren't these forums for speculation, debate,  logical theories & plans?

The Josh Gordon 2018 Outlook thread has been locked 5 times in the past two weeks, two of which were just for a few minutes.  There were three locks lasting more than a few minutes over the course of the last 14 days, which is a definition of "just about everyday" that I'm unfamiliar with.

 

JG is a fascinating player, so there's a lot to talk about regarding his outlook as a player and as a fantasy asset.  We do get some talk about those things, but at times the conversation is overwhelmed by nonsense.  You've been around long enough and visit often enough to have seen some of that nonsense, either in this year's JG thread or past ones.  Now take whatever ones you do see and imagine that there are hundreds more like them that we're removing.

 

To put some concrete numbers on the problem, there have been some 650 removed comments in there, with a vast majority of them occurring in the past few weeks since the season started.  In one day this week, we had to remove 43 comments and edit a dozen or so more just in the Gordon thread.

There are plenty of places on the Internet to have a more free-for-all discussion where there's no expectation of staying on topic and no penalty for attacking other posters.  We have decided that this community is more valuable when a lot of the nonsense is removed.  But removing that nonsense takes time, and when the thread is in a state where a vast majority of the comments aren't saying anything useful about a player's fantasy outlook, we have to make choices how to best spend our time -- and that sometimes means shutting the thread down for a while.

Yes, they are.  But we have day jobs, families, etc. in addition to the time we spend trying to keep this community going.  The idea that closing down one thread for a couple of days in a two week period constitutes an "oppressive society" is absurd.  What sort of "speculation, debate,  logical theories & plans" can't wait until later that day or the next morning?

And please don't give the we have jobs family excuse, so do most of us including me.  U signed up for this job, we are ur clients, customer is always right

These forums have a set of rules.  You agreed to abide by them when you joined.  If you have any particular action you disagree with then we're happy to explain our reasoning, but if you're unwilling to accept that we have not only the right but the responsibility according to the rules of the forum to do some moderation of content in order to make visiting these forums a pleasant experience for people, then I don't think there's much we can do to help you.

Our responsibility as moderators is to maximize the value of the forums to the entire user base.  When it's clear that some contributions are causing problems that can drive others away from the site, we intervene.  That's the system the owners of the site set up, and, again, it's a system you accept when you visit here.  If you want things to work differently, please contact help@rotoworld.com and tell them you don't think moderation of content should be allowed.
