dychead
Our legaue is interested in creating a system that will break a match-up tie. We'd also are looking into creating a "home field advantage". I'm curious to know if anyone plays in a league with such settings and what those settings are -- and, more or less, do you think it works. Options we're consideirng: -- home team is awarded the victory in a tie -- team with most bench points is awarded the victory in a tie -- Home Team/Higher Seed has 10 point advantage in playoffs Thoughts? We don't use a tie breaker in the regular season but if we did we would go with the bench pts. As far as Home field in the playoffs goes, 10pts may be a bit much especially if your league's scoring system doesnt allow for a lot of pts to be had. Maybe go with 3 pts for home field. rotoking07
Not to sure about the home field advantage thing. Does your league use fractional points regarding ties? I've yet to see a tie in a league where we use fractional points (98.xx). There's been some pretty close matches, but no ties. If it were ever to happen though, you could either go to bench points, or use certain cats to break it (who had the most yards, who had the most TDs). I've yet to see a tie in a league where we use fractional points (98.xx). This was actually just brought up in our league discussion as a viable solution. I like this idea. As for Home Field Advantage... we're trying to reward the top-seeded teams in the playoffs. The BYE week is nice, but really means very little overall (i.e. what does a week of rest mean for a fantasy team?). I not sold of giving them points. I'd rather just allow them to pick their round 2 opponent.
dychead
Anyone use a decimal socring system with CBS.Sportsline.com? I'm not sure its an option.
Bo Knows Fantasy
We use fractional points, and even though there've been matchups settled by less than half a point, a tie is almost impossible. I never know how I feel about advantages in playoffs, though. On one hand, the better team should get SOMETHING, but really, week to week tends to rely on a lot of luck anways, so that bye is pretty nice, ya know? 10 points seems a little steep, maybe 5 would be better? 2Balls
We use an overtime player. You choose a guy from your bench as your OT player in case of tie. It works great and makes it easier to sit your #3 RB v. ARI because you can still set him as your OT player.

How is that not a huge reward when even the best of teams could have a down week and lose?
Texansfan
"home field advantage" is the stupidest tie breaker IMO. it has nothing to do with the actual results. i don't like bench points either b/c of the byes. in my league we leave ties as ties in the regular season. then in the playoffs everyone gets their seeding. in the event of a tie in the playoffs the tiebreaker goes to the higher seed. that is fair b/c it awards the team that was better throughout the course of the season.
